Purchase of Alaska 1868:
This comes from a newspaper called Washington Standard. Which was given out to the people in Washington explaining our relationship with Russia and how we ended up getting the land. It also explains why Alaska is such a great place where everybody should want to live. For example it talks about how there is gold, copper, silver, hunting ground, etc. So this would be a motivator for people to move out there. The significance of this is that it shows our relationship with Russia. In this article, it even states that we are friends with Russia and they gladly gave the land over. This shows me that it is important that we have a good relationship with other countries because if we need something we can gladly ask and they can give it to us or lets say we go to war with a country and need help we can form an alliance with them and help each other out with problems that occur. This source teaches me that some writers have different opinions on what is important and what to keep out. This author for example, doesn't tell us as the reader the struggles that were most likely involved in this purchase. Also this teaches me about the relationship and how we had all these great things for Russia that it pays off since we wanted something and they gave it. Which it totally could have gone the other way but since we were so good friends Russia let us have it. What I learned about foreign policy from this source is that if we be kind and respective to a nation and communicate we can see a peaceful and better result as we had done. But if we didn't do that and just invaded the land the end result would have been very different and we may have gone to war with Russia which isn't the greatest, since their army is very strong. All in all peaceful agreement will lead to peace if not you better send your army. Chinese exclusion Act 1882:
No Archives This map shows where British Guiana and Venezuela had disputes over where the border show be. So the United States had created the Monroe Doctrine which states that any intervention by external powers in the politics of the Americas is a potentially hostile act against the United States. With that said United States and the British Empire were very close so when Venezuela and British started to go at each other United States stepped up and helped out British Guiana. This shows why our country needs to have alliances with other countries so we don't have disputes that could lead to war.
